Huawei Band 6 Review

Huawei does not want to lose its momentum in the wearables category, so it hastened to launch the Band 6, which integrates the necessary functions to start the physical activity without losing the practicality that smart bands represent.

The wearable technology segment —smart watches and personal audio— had a sales growth of 297 percent in Mexico for Huawei.

“Being confined, people wanted to start monitoring their quantity and quality of physical activity, their quantity and quality of sleep, and they began to see that our devices not only offer them that but also do it for longer,” he said. Carlos Morales, Public Relations Manager at Huawei.

In some first impressions, the Band 6 could be considered an intermediate device between a smart bracelet and the Huawei Watch Fit, which attracted attention for its rectangular display, significant autonomy and customization options.

In this sense, the Band 6 stands out for its 1.47-inch colour AMOLED screen (194 x 368 pixels), oxygenation monitoring in the bloodstream, various training modes and up to 14 days of autonomy. It does not have an integrated GPS.

It feels comfortable once placed on the wrist, as it does not take up much space compared to smartwatches. Its straps, available in green, black, amber and pink, are soft to the touch.

It only integrates a button on the right side (fibreglass frame), which allows you to go to the main interface or menu, the latter with options such as training, recording them, heart rate, sleep, stress level, exercise breathing, notifications, weather, stopwatch, timer, flashlight and find the phone.

For those who have already used Huawei wearables, “the face” of the Band 6 will be pretty familiar. First-timers will find it easy to get started with everything this smart band offers.

overall experience

A smart bracelet with an AMOLED screen and different options to monitor users’ physical activity and health aspects could briefly describe the Huawei Band 6.

Huawei Band6

It is not a device that makes you uncomfortable after wearing it for several hours a day or overnight. Its mini-screen —which does not lose the different navigation options of the firm’s most advanced wearables— and straps also contribute to having a daily band.

Huawei is getting its customers used to wearable technology with significant autonomy. The two weeks of duration offered by its new smart band also make it a more than attractive option among the immense offer on the market.

A unique charging cable is included in the purchase package, so you’ll need to reserve a USB port on your computer or eliminator for when it’s time to recharge.

Of its special functions, apart from monitoring oxygenation in the bloodstream and those dedicated to physical activity, they like breathing exercises, searching for the paired phone —useful for those who lose it even at the desk— and weather (forecast local time).

It should not be forgotten that the Chinese company’s wearables do not allow you to install more applications, so you have to settle for the ones that come pre-installed. However, it doesn’t feel like there are any significant absences or few customization options on their teams.

Band 6 represents a successful evolution in the firm’s offer and the segment of smart bracelets and bands. Its good relation between quality and price will be difficult to ignore.

Communication with the cell phone

As with other wearables from the firm, communication between the cell phone and the Huawei Band 6 takes place through the Health application, from which you can also have a summary of physical activity and multiple customization possibilities. Some stand out:

  •     Clock faces. From some classic ones to others that are more colourful, the user’s only concern will be to choose the cover that best suits a given situation.
  •     Alarms. An alarm can be set from the bracelet, but it is possible to configure it from the application to facilitate this process.
  •     Notifications. It is impossible to interact with the information received from Band 6, but it is possible to establish which ones you want to obtain from the app.
  •     Firmware update. For the device to be up to date in terms of software, it is essential to look at Health, which notifies if there is any update.

A bit the other way around, what can be controlled by the visionary band is the music played from the smartphone, from services such as Amazon Music or Spotify, for example. This is useful when your phone is plugged into a power outlet or pocket.
