Review Poco X3 Pro
Today we have with us the Poco X3 Pro. A model with very interesting features at a groundbreaking price. If you want to know everything it includes and how it works, we advise you to listen to the review.
we reviewed the new Poco X3 Pro, a terminal that promises to be a sales leader thanks to its characteristics and its adjusted price of € 199. That is why we wanted to put it to the test and check its performance in daily use.
For those who are not very familiar with this brand, it is a sub-brand of the Chinese company Xiaomi characterized by having very cheap and quality terminals.
Like the Poco X3 NFC, this terminal comes in a black box with the model name on the top, “Poco X3 Pro”. On one side, it has a label with the characteristics. In these, you can see how it has the CE symbol (European Conformity) that indicates that it meets the legal and technical minimums in terms of safety to market it in Europe. You can also see that it is the 6GB / 128GB version.
As soon as we open it, we find a thank you card. Below is the typical box that includes the transparent but quite rigid TPU case, the pinch for the SIM slot, an instruction guide, and some stickers. Below we find the terminal very well wrapped in plastic.
Below, we have the current charger (Spanish version) from 5V to 3A / 9V to 3A / 12W at 2.5 / 11V at 3A output and 33W of maximum power and the 90 cm USB type C cable.
software
In the same way as the rest of Xiaomi models, this Poco X3 Pro comes with the MIUI 12.0.2 customization layer under the famous Android 11 operating system. The most significant difference that we can find is that it includes the famous Poco el launcher, which comes with an application menu. If you have any other smartphone, you can download it from the Google Play application store for free.
As for updates, Xiaomi is one of the brands that most often needs certain corrections and patches to improve the operation of the smartphone. In the following months, it will likely be one of the smartphones that will update to its recently presented MIUI 12.5 version.
This Poco X3 Pro is a global version, so we can enjoy a wide variety of languages, including Spanish, without installing any application or modifying the system. Of course, it also comes with the Google Play Store and Google services pre-installed.
We reiterate the number of applications installed in the MIUI system, including some games and applications that most of us will never use. As for Google applications, it comes with: Gmail, Maps, Youtube, Duo, Photos, Podcast, Drive, Google One, Calendar, etc. We can also find Xiaomi’s own: the Calculator, Clock, Recorder, Compass, ShareMe, Scanner, My Remote, Radio, etc. Next, we leave a series of screenshots with all the applications that came pre-installed.
In most smartphones, applications of dubious reputation that could put our information at risk no longer usually come. After running the antivirus, Malwarebytes has not detected any malicious applications.
As we always mentioned, MIUI offers many configuration possibilities in the theme of the screen, selecting the refresh rate at 120Hz or the colors of the screen. We can also create and customize the screen de lock to show the time and our notifications at all times.
The main curiosity of this customization layer, as we have already mentioned, is the “Poco launcher” that comes pre-installed. Thanks to this, it provides MIUI with a menu of applications in which we can find all the applications that we install on the terminal. The most used can be taken to the main screens of the smartphone.
As for the rest, there is nothing more novel that can be discussed. It maintains the “double space” to configure different user profiles, use gestures on the screen, floating windows, and the possibility of cloning applications. Unlike other layers of customization such as Realme UI, One UI, Xiaomi gives us the possibility of having two user accounts of any application in the system, not necessarily social networks or messaging applications.
For all those who enjoy Netflix on their smartphone, we would like to indicate that it has the Widevine L1 security level with which we can play streaming videos from different platforms with the highest quality that allows it.
As with most of the manufacturer’s smartphones, this smartphone does not have the possibility of getting the video signal through its USB type C port. We will have to use wireless ways through the WiFi connection.
It is a system that provides many configuration possibilities, and that behaves smoothly. However, we do not like to find so much advertising in applications from the manufacturer itself, such as the file manager, the music player, or the video player. I’m starting to get tired, and I think other manufacturers are improving a lot.
A facial recognition that works well and unlocks quickly in good light conditions, although it cannot unlock the smartphone if we wear sunglasses. Unlike other brands or even other older smartphones from the company itself, it allows you to store up to two faces.
Settings
Finally, mention that the experience using this terminal with Android Auto has been complete and has not given any problem, neither when linking it nor when using it. I just plugged the cable into the phone and followed the instructions that appeared on the screen.
Design and Materials
This new terminal maintains the design of the traditional Poco X3.
It measures 76.8mm wide, 165.3mm high, and is 9.4mm thick. It is made of plastic and glass, which makes its weight 216g.
The front part stands out for its hole in the central part of the screen. This hole is quite small compared to its more direct competitors. The usable screen area is around 85%.
In this case, this new terminal mounts a 6.67-inch IPS LCD panel with a FullHD + resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a density of 386 pixels per inch. The aspect ratio is kept at 20: 9. It is a 2.5D screen rounded in the corners that takes advantage of the edges quite well.
But it is also that this screen has a real 120Hz refresh rate that gives a greater sense of fluidity, and that is something to be appreciated in a terminal of this price range. The tactile response amounts to 240Hz.
In terms of resistance, it has a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 glass to avoid scratches. I would still recommend it.
