Samsung Galaxy A53 Review

The Samsung Galaxy A53 is one of Samsung’s most important models for 2022, as it suggests that the company has confirmed four years of significant system updates and five security patches. This becomes one of the main reasons to buy it, although there are some points against it, such as the fact that it is the first of the Galaxy A to arrive in Spain without a charger in the box. Samsung assumes that we will already have a compatible charger.

not the performance we expected !

Samsung has released a new mid-range processor in this model, 1280. The performance of this processor has left us somewhat cold, especially in the use of the interface, with a feeling of being a much cheaper mobile.

There are two possible explanations for this low fluidity.

The first is that the drive we tested has 6GB of RAM, which may affect performance. Even with the virtual RAM extension set to the maximum, with an extra 6 GB, we would have liked a different experience.

The second is that the performance was somewhat capped by software. We say this because, in the week we have used it, we received an update that deactivated the operating system’s control to increase autonomy. After that change, the speed has improved a bit, but not enough to put this mobile on par with other competitors, such as the realme nine or the OnePlus Nord CE 2.

Of course, our complaint is more in the movement of the menus, in the opening of applications and multitasking, but not in the use of games and apps. There it usually gives a correct result.

The internal memory, 128GB on this unit, can be expanded via microSD cards.

Regarding connectivity, we have had many problems with Bluetooth. However, it has given us the feeling that Wi-Fi does not have as much range as in other models because sometimes we have seen that signal strength was not as high as we expected in the same places where we test all mobiles.

A great screen that only lacks brightness

Samsung is still the company that makes the best mobile screens; this is an example, with one exception.

The FHD+ resolution, the AMOLED technology, the quality of the colours, the maximum refresh rate at 120 Hz, the fingerprint sensor on the screen… all this is what we like about the net, what is expected of mobile of this price.

What is the exception? You have seen it in the title of this section: brightness.

Indoors, the screen of this mobile looks very good, without more, although we do not have compatibility with +. The problem is that outdoors the supposed 800 maximum brightness sometimes does not seem so. It is not a bad screen that makes us look for the shade, but it makes it clear that it looks much better indoors than outdoors.

Plastic again, something that collides

This year Samsung has decided to eliminate plastic from its high-end models. Both the S22 and S22 Plus use the glass on their back. It is expected given the price of these models, but we see that the plastic is still maintained in the mid-range.

This Galaxy A53 has a plastic back, with a touch reminiscent of those used in very cheap mobiles a few years ago. Visually it is excellent, and we know that most users will use a case.

However, the fact that Samsung uses these materials in terminals of more than 400 euros still seems like a mistake to us.

As for the design, we have a comfortable and ergonomic, and not very heavy. The display bezels are acceptably tight, and the metal perimeter frame feels good in the hand.

The camera module seems to be made of the same plastic, reminiscent of the OPPO Find X3 Pro, but that model had much better finishes.

We liked that Samsung has provided water resistance to a mid-range mobile, differentiating it from many of its competitors if this is important to the buyer.

Another difference is the existence of a double speaker that works very well. The sound is, of course, one of the reasons to buy this Samsung Galaxy A53.

battery issues

Samsung has used a vast 5000 mAh battery in this Galaxy A53. This does not mean that there are two inconvenient It is in this section.

The first is that the terminal comes without a physical charger, which could put many buyers off if they look at other similarly priced models. The second is that fast charging, at 25 W, is much slower than what we are beginning to see in the mid-range, with models from 65 and up to 120 W. Literally between three and five times faster.

Indeed, the maximum speed is not the one used in the entire load, but I am already telling you that it is noticeable daily.

In the first battery test, we have been using the mobile exclusively outdoors to take photos, and videos, use Google Maps with GPS and play a game, but very little compared to other tests. We have almost 5 hours of the screen with about 30 hours of battery.

In the second test, we have made a mixed-use, partly like the previous test but partly under Wi-Fi, with lower screen brightness, to play, make a call… We have reached five and a half hours on the screen with 24 hours of total autonomy.

Those two tests have been with the screen at 120 Hz.

We decided to put the screen at 60 Hz for the third and last test. We have used the game to play some games. We have used social apps and instant messaging applications. We have reached 5 hours of the screen with 30 hours of autonomy.
