The Apple iPhone 13 is powered by the A15 Bionic chipset with Neural Engine and offers great performance. Everything changes quickly; the device switches between tasks smoothly, while games and apps run smoothly. The iPhone 13 Pro is a bit more powerful, despite using the A15, as it has an additional GPU core (five versus four) for its setup.
In terms of battery life, the iPhone 13 is claimed to offer up to 19 hours, and that’s not far from the mark in our experience. It offers a more remarkable life than the iPhone 13 mini, unsurprisingly given its larger capacity, and the physically larger battery capacity means that it is certainly a step up from the previous iPhone 12.
Of course, it depends on what you do with the phone and how advanced you are. But we were left with around 30 to 40 percent at bedtime in the days when we had been testing the various camera features and watching movies and shows while also using video and 5G features.
software
iOS 15The Apple iPhone 13 runs on iOS 15, available for all iPhone devices (from iPhone 6S and later). However, there are some additional features on the iPhone 13 that you won’t find on older models, such as Cinematic video mode and Photo Styles in the camera app, but otherwise, the experience is familiar.
There are some great features in iOS 15 that are worth checking out, like FaceTime’s portrait mode and focus modes, both of which we love, during the Live Text and Shared with You features are certainly useful. Some elements take a little getting used to, like Safari’s new design.
You can read about all the changes that software build brings in our separate feature, but the only thing we’d say is that we’re pleasantly surprised by how much we like thinner and more timely delivered notifications on the lock screen, plus how We have quickly become accustomed to the movement of the URL bar of the Safari browser. Give it a try; sometimes, change is good.
First impressions
Although the iPhone 13 isn’t drastically different from its iPhone 12 predecessor, it does increase battery life to offer what will be an ideal option for those who want a large-screen device, something you won’t get on the mini. With a lot of power and functions.
Sure, you miss out on a handful of nice features compared to the iPhone 13 Pro, including the telephoto zoom lens, macro mode, 120Hz fast refresh display, and 1TB storage option, but the iPhone 13 is still an excellent versatile device that, more importantly, does not cost that much.
The iPhone 13 is the balanced choice to make, without having to feel like you’re settling for second best, thanks to that combination of power, large screen, and value for money.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini specifications
While the smaller iPhone 13 mini has a 5.4-inch screen, the standard iPhone 13 has a 6.1-inch screen. These are sharp Super Retina OLED panels, with a higher brightness of up to 800 nits in typical use and 1200 nits with HDR content. Both support DCI-P3 wide color gamut and Apple’s True Tone feature, adjusting the color temperature based on ambient lighting. Sadly, this generation doesn’t have a high refresh rate or ambient display, disappointing considering Apple’s premium prices.
Inside, the main attraction is the new Apple A15 Bionic SoC. The company claims that even last year’s A14 Bionic is still superior to the competition, its lead has increased. That said, the iPhone 13 and 13 mini have one less GPU core than the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, although the SoC name is the same.
You get support for 5G and LTE, dual eSIMs, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC for Apple Pay, and ultra-broadband for location awareness. There’s no fingerprint sensor, and Apple’s 3D Face ID doesn’t work if you wear a mask, which is unfortunate. The headset functions as a second speaker for stereo sound.

iPhone 12
Older hardware is still a powerful device with a great (almost identical) design. Battery life isn’t that great, but it’s still a logical buy if you can find one with a great deal. Verdict
There is no doubt that the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini work without problems. The iPhone 13 mini, in particular, could be a nice upgrade if you’re currently using an older iPhone and want to keep something small. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 is more in line with the current market and more versatile for many people. The choice between the two sizes is primarily based on convenience and ease of use (and your budget), but keep in mind that there is also a difference in battery life.
These phones offer much of what you would get with the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max at much lower prices. However, they are still very expensive, and you don’t get some of the nicer touches like the 120Hz display. If you don’t need Cinema Mode or Photo Styles, you may be perfectly satisfied. The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max are no longer officially available, but you can still find them for sale at prices that overlap the iPhone 13.
Added to that is also the fact that the iPhone 12 and 12 mini are now available at lower official prices, and there have been some extraordinary deals during recent online sales. Last year’s models represent enormous value, selling for just over half the size of new iPhones. iOS 15 and future updates will also keep things fresh for a while.
That means the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are a bit sandwiched between the latest Pro models and their predecessors, all while battling Android-based competitors with comparable or even better features at much lower prices. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini may not be exciting new phones, but they keep the ball rolling and provide potential iPhone buyers plenty of new options.
